WESTBOURNE MOTORSPORT CONFIRMS THIRD RENAULT UK CLIO CUP ENTRY FOR BEN COLBURN

Leading Renault UK Clio Cup team Westbourne Motorsport will expand to three cars when Ben Colburn (Worthing) makes his debut in the championship alongside big brother James and also current points leader James Dorlin later in the season.

Colburn, a front-running name in both the club level Michelin Clio Series and historic saloon car competition, is scheduled to join the grid for the championship’s final three events of 2018 starting at Rockingham in late August.

The 18-year-old commented: “Joining the Westbourne team when it is right at the top of its game in the Clio Cup with all its profile is a great opportunity for me – I’ll obviously do everything I can to help its results while taking in as much as possible for a full season in 2019.”

The Colburn family owns the Westbourne squad and, having been a top name in the Clio Cup for over six years, it currently leads the drivers’ standings after the championship’s latest two rounds at Oulton Park with Dorlin (Barnsley).

Team Principal Richard Colburn said: “It’s obviously a proud moment for us to have both James and Ben competing together as brothers in the Clio Cup but, more importantly, this is going to be very important for Ben’s progress as a racing driver.

“It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while but obviously not until the time was right for both Ben and also us as a team. In the meantime we will be concentrating on the championship’s forthcoming rounds…”

Next up for the Clio Cup are Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire (Sat 23/Sun 24 June) and then Snetterton in Norfolk (Sat 28/Sun 29 July). As ever at both fixtures the Clio Cup will be in action alongside the headlining British Touring Car Championship meaning tens of thousands of trackside fans as well as live coverage on ITV4.

Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Manager Will Fewkes added: “It’s great to announce that Ben – another really exciting new name in UK motor sport – is joining our grid in 2018.

“The UK Clio Cup is all about quality and giving drivers the opportunity to boost their profiles and credibility by impressing in reliable, safe and equally matched cars on a big stage. It’s no coincidence that so many of the top names in the BTCC – eight of them are currently inside its top 14 – have previously raced in the Clio Cup.”
